The Studio and Rehearsal Room

There is a need in Sydney for more rehearsal venues to enable the creation of theatre, dance and musical performances, as well as an unmet need for commercial rehearsal space.

The new Chatswood Civic Place will provide two versatile, entry level spaces – The Studio and the Rehearsal Room, each 165m2 in size situated in the building below the Concert Hall. These venues will not only be used for developing and rehearsing shows and new work, but will also be able to accommodate small public performances for artists that prefer an intimate environment within which to showcase their work. These venues will also be available for hire to dance and production companies, as well as television studios.

The rehearsal studios will create greater opportunities for young people and emerging artists to engage in arts and cultural projects and programs.

The Studio and Rehearsal Room will also strengthen regional touring opportunities and assist in supporting regional arts programs across NSW. The provision of these spaces, designed to accommodate small public performances, and the provision of three adjoining office spaces on a temporary basis for small art organisations and touring organisations will ensure that young artists entering the industry are supported through facilities that have relatively low overheads.
