The development of the eastern end of Civic Place (the Archer Street Precinct) as a commercial precinct has a number of benefits:

• serviced apartments will provide on site accommodation for performers, audiences and conference delegates
• the uses will assist in ensuring Civic Place is subject to natural surveillance both during the day and late into the night, thus increasing the security of the site
• the commercial use will optimise the use and economic value of Council assets

The 88 Archer Street site has been leased for a period of 99 years and will be developed by the private developer for serviced apartments, retail and other supporting commercial spaces in accordance with the issued development consent which reflects both the site specific Development Control Plan and principles of the original Masterplan for the overarching Civic Place site.
