Public art
The Civic Place project will incorporate several new commissioned works of art as well as retaining previous works of public art where possible.
The locations of public artworks and the gallery space have been selected, though these may be altered slightly.
The Civic Place Heritage and Public Art Master Plan were prepared in 2006 by Pamille Berg Consulting and identify a series of opportunities for the placement of commissioned and acquired works in Civic Place. It also advises on the integration of selected heritage items from the existing buildings into the new complex.
There will be two major commissions, one for the Water Court and the other in the Performance Foyer. There will also be a donor recognition wall, a work based on quotes from the area’s history, and several smaller hanging works done by artists working with the community for the library and booking office.
Artists for the two major commissions have been selected and the designs will be completed in 2007/2008, with the work taking place in 2008 and 2009, ready for installation in 2011.
